Varicose veins in men

There is an opinion that varicose veins are considered a female disease.Varicose veins of the legs in menHowever, for several years now, more than 55% of the total number of patients have been visiting our clinic.The male gender is not concerned with the aesthetic side: they are not afraid of spider veins or critically swollen veins, which is why many patients still postpone their visit to the doctor until “later”.

This can be explained by the fact that varicose veins initially manifest themselves only weakly and the stronger sex often leaves this disease to chance.Over time, the disease causes more discomfort: heaviness in the legs, pain, swelling of the veins, blood clots and ulcers.There are also concomitant venous diseases that can be treated with surgery.

Treatment of varicose veins

The methods and timing of treatment of varicose veins in each patient depend on the degree of neglect, tests and health status.

In the initial phase

Hardware massage of the lower extremities— Pressotherapy (also called intermittent pneumocompression or hardware lymphatic drainage for varicose veins).The beautician uses the device to select the optimal treatment recommended individually for the patient at a specific stage of the disease and for specific indications.The device applies wave-like pressure to the patient's legs (alternating high and low), forcing blood and lymph to actively circulate through the affected tissue.The session lasts approximately 40 minutes.The procedure can be carried out at any age, for men and women.You can return to your everyday activities immediately after the session.

Sclerotherapy.Treating varicose veins without surgery.A drug is injected that sticks the canal walls together.The procedure is painless.After the operation, wearing special textiles and walking for an hour is mandatory.The procedure is carried out without anesthesia.The injections do not leave any scars.

Compression jersey (socks, tights and stockings).Individually selected.Anti-varicose vein underwear looks similar to classic underwear, but has no seams.The fabric is made of nylon, microfiber and Lycra.The fabric is breathable and feels comfortable.For more information and recommendations on choosing, see the article – Compression stockings: selection, compression class, sizes.

In advanced stages

Laser coagulation.Insertion of the light guide into the affected vessel with a single puncture without cuts.Soldering creates radiation on the damaged area.Laser light heats the affected walls of blood vessels and varicose veins and thus closes the varicose vein vessel.No hospital stay is required for this procedure.Immediately afterwards, the patient can go home independently.

Miniphlebectomy.Varicose veins are removed through punctures.With this technique, suprafascial branches of any diameter are removed.Local anesthesia is used.The essence of this method is to remove and remove varicose veins using special hooks from individual 1-2 mm punctures in the skin.The veins are not tied, punctures do not require suturing and hemostasis is achieved by elastic compression.After several months, postoperative skin scars are practically invisible.

Compression clothing against varicose veins

In the initial stages and after treatment, men are recommended to wear individually selected compression stockings.Anti-varicose vein underwear looks similar to classic underwear, but has no seams.The fabric is made of nylon, microfiber and Lycra.The fabric is breathable and feels comfortable.

Men's compression jerseys are divided into:

  • Stockings for varicose veins on the thighs;
  • tights if both legs are affected;
  • Knee socks if the condition occurs in the calves or just above the knee.

At the first sign of the disease you need to buy underwear.

Tips for wearing compression socks:

  1. Put on your underwear carefully so as not to tear the product.
  2. File your fingernails and toenails to avoid tearing your underwear.
  3. Apply it in the morning without waiting for swelling.
  4. Take off the compression garment before going to bed.
  5. If it is difficult for an overweight patient to put on compression stockings themselves, it is advisable to purchase a device for tightening them.
  6. Wash clothes in warm water with baby soap.To prevent water from getting on the silicone, tighten the upper part with a thread and clean the elastic with a cotton pad soaked in alcohol.
